Scratch Tinkering 1.12.2014

Hi Mars class,

This afternoon we have been learning about algorithms and the importance of a clear, precise sequence of instructions. What else did we discuss this afternoon? Can you remember any of our key words and what they mean?

What did you discover when you explored Scratch? Tell me all about your tinkering experience here!

Miss Bates 🙂

we learned about algorithm it means to make the rules so much easier like if you were to make toast and you had to make it all by yourself first you have to break the parts so like you need the items like you will need toast a toaster and butter or jam you will just need thing that make it yummy or flavoured and decomposition means just breaking the parts in steps or bigger steps that means decomposition .

  2. Havin says:

Today I’ve been on a programme called Scratch . I have been adding more to a game hat someone has made so that means that I ‘ve been tinkering on scratch . we all have been adding noises , recording own voice , adding another sprite and maybe deleting sprites or even duplicating it . also you can change the back round which is the scene .

miss bates my inventin worked well

  4. mo says:

we leaned about algorithm and it’s when you are doing a very simple easy instrucshon and like when you are doing a reely hard thing. and decomposition is when you are breaking large word and you got to do is break the seantncice.

  5. jess says:

I lernt algorifm mens you gif instrushns and the ufer wun mens you brac your instrucshn up into littler werds.

  6. AHMED says:

WE learned what animation is like it can help you to make toast or a gigantic cake and tinkering means like you try new thing and like any thing

  7. Roni says:

Algorithm is to put instructions in the games,Decomposition is to break pieces and to put in order.

ALGORIVEM IS A CLIR SET OF INSTROCTOS ON SCRATH WE WEAR TINCARING I CANGD THE CARICTARS AND THE SETING WE GOT TO CANG THE SAONDS WOT I INGOYD WAS MACING THE CARICTOS SAY HALOW.

  9. kerem says:

Today in scratch we learned about Algorithm and changing variables like changing back rounds , sprites, what they say we even recorded our voice !!! and it was really fun because we got to do change some stuff and I would like to do it again sometime because it was really fun .

  10. jess says:

Ilernt to werds at mins instrnkshns and clirer instrucshns.

    Hi Mars Class,

My name is Dr Chips and I am one of the Barefoot Computing team that have been creating the resources you and Miss Bates have been using.

It is wonderful to read your comments above about everything you have learnt so far about computational thinking – well done Mo for describing what ‘Decomposition’ is and Arman R for giving an example of an ‘Algorithm’. What other examples of algorithms can everyone think of? How do you know they are algorithms? Have you followed an algorithm today?

I see also that you have started learning how to program using Scratch – fantastic! I hope you had fun tinkering with the Scratch animation and game Havin? Well done for learning how to change the background and sprite. A few people also mentioned recording their voice into Scratch – what a great idea. Can anyone tell me what piece of equipment you used to get the sound of your voice into the computer? What else did everyone learn whilst tinkering with Scratch?

What are you planning to make next in Scratch? Have you any ideas for programs you would like to create?

Well done again on all you have learnt so far, please do keep blogging about your programming. I’ll check back soon to read your updates.

    Best wishes from Manchester,

    Dr Chips

P.S Arman.S – I’d love to know what the invention was that you managed to get working?
